St Bernard's Catholic Grammar School and St Joseph's Catholic High School, in Slough, have submitted a proposal to the Department for Children, Schools and Families, to merge and form a city academy.
It would be the first academy in the country to involve a grammar school. If selection at the school is abolished, it will be the first grammar school to effectively close in more than two decades. Bob McCartney, the chairman of the National Grammar Schools Association, said the plan set a dangerous precedent that would undermine the grammar school sector across the country.
